Frequently asked questions.

Do I need a referral?

No, you can refer your own child to speech pathology.

What does an assessment involve?

An assessment usually involves three parts;

1. A discussion with parents about their concerns

2. Observation of the child in play or conversation

3. Testing of the child’s speech and language skills using age-appropriate assessments. These are usually fun for the child..

What can I do at home?

As a parent, you are your child's most effective teacher. You will be given fun activities to do at home.

How often, and for how long, will my child need to come?

As each child is different, and each has different strengths and weaknesses, there is no hard and fast rule here. Most families come weekly or fortnightly for 30-minute sessions. Some children improve very quickly, whilst others will attend for quite a while. Sometimes a child needs a break from therapy. At this practice I work with parents to provide a therapy service that suits the child and the whole family.

Are there funding options?

Medicare - Chronic Disease Management (CDM). The CDM is a scheme that allows eligible patients to receive up to 5 subsidised sessions through Medicare per calendar year. Please discuss your child’s eligibility with your GP. Please note that the current rebate is $58.30 per session and a gap will be payable at the time of your appointment.

National Disability Scheme - NDIS. This practice is currently able to provide services to self-managed participants and those utilising a plan partner.

Private Health Insurance -This practice is registered with all the major health funds. Please confirm with your health fund that you are eligible for speech therapy under your current plan.
